North Divsion Selection

Jessica Kampjes

St. Albert KAL Tire Slash

The St. Albert KAL-TIRE Slash Midget AAA Hockey Team is proud to nominate Jessica Kampjes for recognition as AMMFHL Player of the Month.

A first-year midget and AMMFHL Rookie, from Gibbons, Kampjes is the prototypical power forward who possesses the ability to dominate the game. Coming off dominant seasons in Bantam A hockey (St. Albert Silvertips 2007-08; Fort Saskatchewan Fury 2008-09) and impressive performances in both the 2008 and 2009 Hockey Alberta Under 16 Challenges, Kampjes has made a very quick adjustment to the Midget AAA game. Known for her ability to compete and raise her game to match or exceed that of her opponents, Kampjes is a very consistent player. She gets points each and every game, more often than not against the opposition’s top line.  Kampjes plays with different line-mates on a regular basis and makes each of them a better player. A natural forward, Kampjes plays the point on the Slash power play unit and is one of two forwards called upon in 5 on 3 penalty kills.
Kampjes had an outstanding month of December. In 3 AMMFHL games she accumulated 6 points with 2 goals and 4 assists. She led the Slash in scoring at the 2009 Notre Dame Showcase with 5 goals and 6 helpers – contributing to the Slash winning the B pool final. She capped a great month with a 10 goal (2 GWG’s), 4 assist performance over the 6 games of the 2009 MAC’s tournament. These totals resulted in Kampjes being recognized as twice as Player of the Game in pool play, being selected to the First All-Star Team and named the Tournament MVP.

Kampjes leads the Slash and the AMMFHL North Division in scoring, with 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points, and stands 9th in the AMMFHL scoring race. Kampjes has 2 game winning goals in AMMFHL play this season. She has firmly entrenched herself in the role of a go to player. In January, Kampjes has 9 points in 8 AMMFHL league games – 2 goals and 7 assists.
Despite her competitive nature, her skill combined with an infectious personality has helped Kampjes quickly gain the respect and admiration of teammates and opponents.
A merit student, Kampjes is actively involved in school activities and sport as well as the 4-H Clubs of Canada.
Congratulations Jessica on being selected the AMMFHL North Division Player of the Month!
